Volunteers needed for 4Paws
As most of you know, Petco donates space in five of its Northern Virginia stores to 4Paws’ cats.  We greatly appreciate this opportunity for our cats—this exposure to the public has been instrumental to 4Paws’ successful adoption of thousands of cats and kittens over the years. As part of the arrangement with Petco, 4Paws’ volunteers go to the stores each night to take care of the cats.  Each volunteer commits to one night a week at the Petco store most convenient to their home or office.

Starting January 1, 4Paws will be required to have volunteers go to each store twice a day—morning and evening—to take care of the cats. At this point, we have virtually no a.m. volunteers at any of the following Petco stores:  Alexandria, Burke, Chantilly, Fairfax, and Tyson’s Corner.

Store volunteer responsibilities include giving fresh food and water to the cats, scooping their litter boxes, cleaning the cages and giving them some loving attention.  Do you know anyone that could commit to volunteer one morning each week at any of the above listed Petco stores between 8:30 and 10:00 a.m.?  Please email: furryfeet21@hotmail.com to anyone who can help or have them leave a message at 703-715-6369 (press 1 to leave a message). We are getting desperate… the end of the year is approaching quickly. Please spread the word and help us get the volunteers that we need to take care of the cats.

  • The Humane Society of Fairfax County also has two thrift shops where people can donate a number of items (they will accept anything except mattresses or any furs). These donations are tax deductible, and they can help the humane society place animals in homes. The Humane Society doesn’t put animals to sleep, until they are extremely ill. The thrift shop in Fairfax is only 10 min. from the college and they’re open on Saturdays! Here is the link to the two shops where people may make donations: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/VA163.html

  • The Washington Animal Rescue League offers a program where you can sponsor an animal's care through them.  They are a non profit organization. (If you are not in a position to adopt an animal from WARL, you can still make a difference! By sponsoring a dog or cat for the duration of the average 6-week stay (or a portion thereof), you will help us cover the cost of sheltering and providing medical care for the animal.)
